One of eight annual contemplative programs that reflect the theme of “Reclaiming Our Nature,” and use the seasons – Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall – to celebrate and mark transition periods in our lives – this series of meditative rituals draws on the beautiful natural surroundings of the gardens and our own human nature to practice being present through awakening our senses. Explore your own inner landscapes of wellbeing as we engage with sacred symbols of art, nature and our own deeply interwoven selves.

MINDFULNESS IN NATURE WORKSHOPS &
Fernwood SUMMER CAMP
(ages 5-7); (8-10); $30/child; 2 hours, materials included
locations: Art and Education Center, Three Oaks, Mi. or Fernwood Botanical Gardens
Drawing from social emotional learning and mindfulness meditation practices, games, eating and creative movement, these offerings allows kids to unplug from technology and refresh themselves from a busy school year. Each day, we’ll share nature-based projects; build attentional skills; and have the chance to practice mindfulness with friends and community in a retreat setting.
Experiences include: breathwork, making mood jars, body-emotion maps, nature mandalas, exploring micro-worlds, trust walks, story-yoga and constructive rest.
Movement and mindfulness teachers for the summer camp have decades of experience working with children and are certified in a variety of healing modalities drawing from theater, storytelling, neuroscience, dance, yoga, mindfulness and music.
Thanks to Mark Magliola (on flute) and Beth Bradfish (sound artist) for this track (playing on this page).
